Pink flowers...

I know, I know...you are supposed to take pictures in the daylight, there are less shadows, the colours are more true to life, but you know what? I bake in the evening, and there is no way to be certain these cupcakes will still be here in the morning! So sue me! They taste heavenly, and I have already eaten all three from this picture!  So I take pictures at night, and hope that the photo shop thingy in iphoto is good enough to show you what I see. In this case, everything is fine, but the colour. In reality, these are not peachy, they are a soft pink. The important thing is I finally tested the meringue buttercream for flowers, and boy is this ever the best icing! These are the prettiest flowers I have ever made, and they didn't take long either! I put the non-pareils in contrasting black and hot pink, just for fun-I think it turned out great! What do you think?

A little array of things...

My friend passed an order yesterday, and decided, let's have an array of things I can make, but not in huge quantities. We decided on the colours blue and white, flavours chocolate and vanilla. These are the result!

Cake bites... just wish the chocolate wouldn't dry with a kind of pattern in it...see blue bite on the right?

Mini cupcakes with flowers beads and shine...

This was my idea, I didn't tell her I would do butterflies...but I think they are wonderful!

And cakepops for the 2 kids... I wanted to keep with the colour scheme, but didn't want it to be too boyish...the purple is nicer in reality though...

The carrier box...

All in all, quite happy with how that went! I just love doing this. Doesn't it feel great to do things we love? What a dream...

A fruitful morning...

Some mornings, and let me start by saying that these rarely happen to me, everything is right on track. Everything you planned to do before getting the baby out of bed magically works out. This was such a morning. Ahhh. I woke up at 6.15 because the cats were going crazy. Figured, why should I go back to bed, I have cakepops to make. I had made the balls yesterday evening, so all I had to do was figure out what kind of look I was going to go for. Now, because they are for me, I tend to not want to have just one design, so although I only made 13, it still took me an hour...The first look was a test...something I had seen and figured could be relatively easy to make, and have a nice finish... I was right!
The marbled cake pop:

Then I wanted to do something pretty, but simple...the use of coloured sanding sugar is always great for simple and pretty...:

And then I just wanted to have a bit of contrast, with the swirls...

Here I just felt that so close to Valentine's day, I couldn't just ignore these colours...(I know the background absolutely doesn't match, but whatever...)

And in the end, to show you what was inside, I went ahead and took a bite. Awww, wish you guys were here to share... but then again, more for me!! Yummy!!!

And to finish my story about the perfect morning, I did an exercise video, showered, took the pictures, put them on my fb page, got my baby, fed her, and now I am sitting here, writing to you, and it's not even 10! Wonderful! A great start to a day, and 12 more cake pops to eat!! Can life be any sweeter?

A new challenge! Snowboarding bride and groom!

I am rather proud of myself...but psschhht! Don't tell anyone! I have, in the last 3 days or is it 4, started and perfected, and perfected again, and changed a few things, and finally finished my first wedding cake figure! And I think it came out really really cute! Had I known I can actually do this, I would have made my own 6 years ago!

Anyway, story behind this : a friend of mine told me she needed a wedding cake topper with her and her future husband as snowboaders, with the clothes and the board and that she thought I could do it. I, of course, read this before going to bed, and couldn't fall asleep for at least 2 hours...I went on the computer, started looking for examples, found only one, looked for tutorials, anything really...the next day I started thinking... so I made the base, and it went well. Then the next morning, I made the body of the man, and I thought, wow! Not bad, and from then on, I was on a roll. I think I changed his arms about 4 times total, and hers twice. He got a second head, and then I added a bit of sugar and sprinkles to make the base look more like snow! Here is the result!! You know the best part? I didn't lose it once! No tantrum, no throwing bad figurines on the walls, nothing! Yay! What do you think?

It's starting!

Well, this is it...I am up for business! A friend of mine put up an add for me, and I finally forced myself to put up the facebook page I had been preparing for the day the actual website would go online...now there is a glitch with the website, I don't know if there will be one for a while or not, but the facebook page is on, and now I am nervous. Will anyone, ANYONE, react to me and my little business? Do I have enough stuff at home to fill orders? Do I have enough skills to really start? Well one thing is for sure, if I continue practising, I will never fit into my normal clothes again, so it's time to branch out! Wish me luck! This dreamer is tired of only dreaming, it's time to DO! Look for my Facebook page Thatbakinggirl and "like" me! That sounded a tad desperate, but you get what I mean...and by the way, sorry, terribly sorry about the terrible writing. I am not too eloquent under the usual circumstances, and well, even worse when excited!

Dainty cookies...

The other day, I saw a cookie blog and the subject was how easy it is to make patterns or lace on cookies. She showed a very easy way of doing it-almost mathematical, with a ruler, and making little holes for dots go and such. Now, I didn't have anything to make holes without breaking the cookies, I went ahead and just tried making lines and dots, as straight as I could. The first cookies are the result of that... all in all, I think I went overboard, but still, the actual piping isn't too bad, and the only regret here is that I made the pink border around the black and white lace cookie. I just thought the sanding sugar would make the line look nice, so I didn't bother to make it perfect. Come to think of it, had I used the thicker sugar, it would have looked nicer...I wish I would have thought of this before... man...

Lace cookies-went crazy with the lines and dots!

My best valentine cookie...ever!

And then I thought I would make a valentine's day cookie with another easy technique I forgot about when doing my first ones the other day...

Sprinkles!
And last but not least, I thought I would try to improve my brushed embroidery... (basic pattern "stolen" from Sweetambs cookies!)

So that's it for today... I still have a bit of royal icing though, so I may be making other cookies in the next few days! Or something else...? Stay tuned! (By the way, not acting coy at all, I really don't know what the next project is!)
